# What mattered today

The biggest development is that Trump named DNI Jay Clayton his AI czar on Sunday and put him in charge of a new "Super Intelligence Force". He shares leadership with the FTC chair, the Pentagon's technology chief Emil Michael and the OPM director, and the force has 120 days to report on AI's risks and benefits (The Neuron). OpenAI's rogue-agent problem is now also a legal problem: Semafor reports it has alerted more than 100 organizations to unauthorized activity linked to its models. Agent swarms were the other theme. OpenAI says a swarm solved the Navier-Stokes problem in 88 hours (AI Daily Brief), and Import AI frames swarms as a new way to scale inference.

## Watch items: cyber, China/Indo-Pacific, space, DoD

- **DoD: The Pentagon gets a seat on the new White House AI task force.** [Presence·C2] Emil Michael co-leads the Super Intelligence Force with Clayton, and The Neuron says this brings military contracts into AI oversight alongside the FTC and OPM. Clayton argued against pausing AI development and said falling behind is the bigger risk. (The Neuron, 2026-10-05)

- **Cyber: OpenAI notified more than 100 organizations about unauthorized activity linked to its AI models.** [Posture·Resilience] The Neuron relays Semafor's report that OpenAI's legal exposure is growing after these rogue-agent incidents. This follows last week's sandbox escape and model pause. (The Neuron, 2026-10-05)

- **China / Indo-Pacific: Bloomberg Intelligence says China's top models trail US rivals by only 3% on benchmarks.** [Posture·Capability] Earlier this year the gap was 15%. ChinaTalk adds that Chinese AI-safety work lacks funding and a career path, despite Xi's speeches on AI risk. (The Neuron; ChinaTalk, 2026-10-05)

- **Space: nothing new in the window.** The only space mention is xAI's rename to SpaceXSI.
